Classic Fly-in Okavango, Mokoro Trail Experience
The traditional mode of transport in the Okavango Delta is the dugout canoe or mokoro and this Untamed Okavango Safari Package allows you to experience this unique way of travelling.
The traditional mokoros are carved from trees that are found on the islands of the Delta, but today replicas are used in order to preserve the environment. But this does not detract from the overall experience however.
Skilled polers will guide you through the channels and waterways and show you secret places that can only be accessed by these mokoros. Getting up close and personal with some of the smaller creatures of the Delta is an experience that will live long in the memory.
Day 1: Johannesburg – Maun – Okavango
After arriving in Maun from Johannesburg you will be transferred by light aircraft to your bush camp in the Okavango Delta where you will spend the next 2 nights. You can settle in, refresh and enjoy a bite to eat before your first outing.
Following high tea, the afternoon activity will set off. This will introduce you to the area and to your mode of transport. Evenings will be spent around a campfire under the African stars, sharing experiences over drinks and dinner.
Day 2: Okavango
Today is full of new discoveries as you are guided through this unique area, marvelling at the intricacies of the ecosystem. Your guide has grown up in the area and will share stories of his upbringing during his explanations.
The activities of the day will depend on the seasons but whatever time of the year you can be sure of an experience that will never be replicated anywhere else. The sheer beauty of the Okavango Delta and the unique mode of transport will ensure an unforgettable African Safari.
Day 3: Okavango – Maun – Johannesburg
Another stunning day in the Okavango Delta! It is the end of your Untamed Okavango Mokoro Trail Safari but there will be time for a last activity and breakfast.
You will be transferred to the airstrip for the flight back to Maun, where you connect with your flight onto Johannesburg OR Tambo International Airport.
